Project Overview:
This was a very open ended project with one question we had to answer.
How can we design and build and energy transfer device?
We had to find a way to show how energy transfers using chemistry. An example of what we could do is thermo-chemistry.

Design: We attempted to make a car using a chemical reaction, a Stirling engine, and a rubber band. Then we attempted to make a fan using the same materials. Neither of these worked due to the rubber band not sticking well enough to the wheel of the engine.
Energy transfer: Chemical energy----->Heat energy----->Kinetic energy. Chemical energy is stored in bonds of compounds waiting to be released in their reaction. Heat energy is the result of movement between atoms, molecules or ions. Kinetic energy is the energy used in motion of parts.
Modifications: One modification we made was using a larger rubber band. The surface area for the original rubber band was not wide enough to properly grip the axle of the car. Another modification we made was switching from rubbing alcohol to heat the engine to 30g of calcium chloride in 30ml of water. This generated more heat energy and increased the temperature 68.2*C.
Heat energy is the result of the movement of tiny particles called atoms, molecules or ions in solids, liquids and gases
Chemical energy is energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds, like atoms and molecules. 129708 J

Conclusion:
For this project I liked it and worked well with my group. However there were a few downfalls, We never got our fan or car to work. Also we never gathered the data we needed to gather. The peaks in the project was finishing it and having a presentation to show and also the way our group worked well together.
